Those interested in purchasing a high-end Android smartphone will inevitably land on the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One. It's time to take a look at how these two handsets stack up against each other now that they both have access to Android 4.2.2.

Before we begin, one thing must be made clear: despite both smartphones running Android 4.2.2, the experience will vary. Samsung's Galaxy S4 runs the TouchWiz interface while HTC's One uses the Sense UI on top of stock Android 4.2.2. All in all, a buyer will have to try out both to decide if he or she likes the Samsung or HTC experience better.

Now, down to the nitty gritty specs.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 sports a 5-inch 1080p display pushing out 441 pixels per inch (441 ppi) with a 1.9GHz quad-core processor here in the States. There are international variants with an Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor, but if you're in the United States and grabbing an S4 from a carrier, you'll be getting a 1.9GHz quad-core version. Aside from that, the Galaxy S4 comes equipped with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, and a 2,600mAh battery rated for up to 17 hours of talk time. Both the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and the 2-megapixel front-facing camera can record in 1080p.

The HTC One has a smaller 4.7-inch 1080p display, but makes up by displaying an impressive 468 ppi. Underneath the hood lies a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. The HTC One's rear-facing camera uses "Ultrapixels" and the 2-megapixel front-facing camera can record in 1080p, just like the Galaxy S4. The battery, at 2,300 mAh, is listed as having an average of 21 hours of talk time depending on the network used.

Both smartphones house top of the line hardware and cost around the same, are available on all big four national carriers in the United States, but there are some key differences. The HTC One's body is aluminum, while the Galaxy S4's is plastic. The HTC One also comes with Android 4.1.2 out of the box, and while Android 4.2.2 is currently rolling out, it will be some time before every region receives the update.
