Shakira Sues Former Boyfriend Antonio De La Rua

Colombian singer Shakira has sued her former boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua only days after a Swiss sided with the Latino superstar in a 100 million dollar lawsuit. Shakira, who is currently dating footballer Gerard Pique with whom she has a son with, accused De la Rua of mismanaging and illegally spending assets that belonged to the singer's company.

Recently, the Argentinian businessman suffered a setback in a Geneva court when a judge denied to freeze the assets of a supposed joint account he had with the Colombian singer that held up to $100 million. After intense scrutiny, the Swiss court ruled that there was a lack of evidence that demonstrated a "legal partnership" between Shakira and De la Rua. It was announced that he is not entitled to any royalties that the singer might have created.

A key element brought up by Shakira's defense was a prenuptial agreement signed by the couple years ago, where the parties manifested their desire to preserve the independent administration of their estates.

During the case, the judges collected testimonies from managers who worked with Shakira over the last ten years. The testimonies reinforced the theory that the relationship between the singer and her former partner was purely personal and that they were the only ones responsible parties for conducting her business activities.

The court proceeded to formally reject De la Rua's attempt to take over a bank account of Shakira because of what they perceived to be "a claim without merit and frivolous," and ordered that he refund any expenses the proceedings might have generated.

Shakira dated De la Rua for almost ten years and on January 10, 2011, the singer posted on her website that after 11 years together, they had separated, but that the Argentinean businessman would still be involved in her business dealings. In September 2012, De la Rua announced that he was planning to sue his former girlfriend after she abruptly ended their business relationship, only ten months after they announced their romantic split.
