SimCity has had a fairly smooth post-release period after the game's epic fail of a launch earlier this year, and the anger from fans over the always-online DRM policy for the game has since cooled somewhat, now that Maxis and EA have managed to smooth over the DRM faults. Now it appears that EA is considering having a so-called "Classic Mode" that would allow users to "In offline or online mode, play a single fully functioning city using cheats and unlocks that allow you to create your perfect city."

This news comes from a survey that was discovered by Reddit users, in which EA quizzed users on a variety of potential add-ons to the game. Besides this Classic Mode there are questions about bigger cities, one-way roads, guilds, and subways. Previously, EA stated that an offline mode would not happen, as too much of the game relies on having the game connect to EA's servers. But now, an offline mode that sounds like a throwback to the classic SimCity formula, including using cheat codes (though cheat codes are much more fun for destroying a city, not making it perfect) would be a welcome addition to scorned fans who cannot forgive the always-online policy, currently implemented.

Simcity, despite having such a troubled launch, has managed to still be a great success for EA and Maxis. While an offline mode is not official yet, putting that mode into the game would bring in some big business from those who do not have a solid internet connection or simply want nothing to do with DRM games. However, judging from EA's rather stubborn stance earlier on not adding an offline mode, even after the fierce fan backlash to the game's launch disaster made SimCity a running joke among gamers, that offline mode may still not happen. Fans will just have to wait and see what happens to find out whether the features mentioned in this survey's questions ever become reality.
