"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will begin shooting this year.

According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the Disney franchise will start shooting in a few months with Norwegian directors Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg on board.

Bruckheimer said, "We hired two young directors who did a movie called 'Kon-Tiki.' They just came to Hollywood last week, they're just starting up. We plan to start filming end of this year or the beginning of next year."

The producer also added that the new film would explore brand new and "exciting" horizons. When asked what he believed fans were expecting, Bruckheimer said, "We don't know what they want. (If I did) I'd be a genius and every movie would be a hit, (but) it doesn't work that way. We try to go by our gut and figure out what's exciting; where haven't we traveled in the past?"

Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow while Penelope Cruz, who played Angelica Teach in 2011's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," has not confirmed her return to the series.

Bruckheimer recently produced "The Lone Ranger" which also stars Depp. The film, which opens this week, received negative reviews with the Hollywood Reporter stating it "wobbles and thrashes all over the place." Bruckheimer has also produced "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time," the "National Treasure" franchise," "Déjà vu," "Black Hawk Down," and "Pearl Harbor."

Roenning and Espen directed the Academy Award nominee "Kon-Tiki" in both English and Norwegian. The duo has also directed "Bandidas" with Cruz and Salma Hayek as well "Max Manus."

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is slated for release in 2015 with Disney distributing.
