Like the zombies that are portrayed in the show, details trudge down from the set of "The Walking Dead," slowly and persistently. Production on season 4 is now well underway as the series gears up for its October premiere. In classic "Walking Dead" fashion, season 3 left off with a heart stopping cliffhanger, so naturally, fans are eager and enthusiastic to catch up with their favorite characters and see how they'll adapt to the increasing threat of the ever hungry zombies and The Governor.

Fans watched as The Governeror edged toward to brink of insanity throughout season 3. Now in the wake of the season 3 finale, there's no telling how far his character will go, or by what means he'll take to get there. But what about his past? To understand the current mindstate of The Governor, one must first understand his past, and according to TVLine, season 4 would pass up on a golden opportunity if it didn't do just that.

"The Governor's origin story, which I imagine would have to include his former ally Milt, seems like a golden opportunity for new showrunner Scott Gimple - especially since David Morrissey is back as a regular in season 4," says Michael Ausiello. "But I honestly have no idea if it's in the cards. The show could just as easily wind up being too busy with new recurring characters like Laura, a single mom and ex-nurse who isn't quite as strong as she first appears; Melody, a "just one of the guys" kind of gal in her 20s; and Don, who sounds like Hershel, if Hershel were crankier and two-legged."

As previously reported, executive producer Robert Kirkman claimed that fans will get to know The Governor better in season 4, through what medium, however, remains unclear.

"The question will be answered [in] season 4," said comic book writer and executive producer Robert Kirkman to Horror-Movies. "We always had a plan for this guy. We always knew that it was a bigger story than would fit into one season. There's still a lot more to be done with this guy. We've known from the very first minute of season 3 that we would be keeping The Governor around for awhile."

"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC October 13.
