Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the hottest games to come out this year, and, if things go as well as most gamers and critics assume, it could be the runaway game of the year - even with stiff competition from titles such as The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite. Even though the game is still months away from its September 17 release date, Rockstar has kept gamers well informed about what they can expect from their newest open world crime drama.

Much of what we know from the game was revealed from the dozens of screenshots that Rockstar has released from the game. In those screenshots, we see the three playable characters from the game, Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, in their elements. Many screenshots show the characters fleeing from the police, or directly confronting them with various weapons. In addition, the environments of Los Santos are shown, with mountainous forests giving way to a massive city and coastal area. The various vehicles of the game are seen as well, ranging from sport and muscle cars to airplanes and even a mini submersible.

Players will be able to switch between the three protagonists on the fly, even during the story missions of the game. When not in use, the other two playable characters will have their own agendas, so players may switch and find those characters in the middle of a police chase or a mission.

The game will be out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though a PC version of the game has been rumored to be in the works. The game will require a mandatory install of 8GB of data for both versions of the game before users will be able to play it.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be the biggest game of the year, and a last hurrah for many owners of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before the next-gen consoles are released. Look for more Grand Theft Auto 5 news as the game's September 17 release date draws near.
