The top smartphone of the devices purchased after July 2012 is the iPhone 5, which accounted for 40 percent of the total traffic from 4G phones.

4G Smartphones bought after July 2012 include Motorola's Razr Maxx HD, HTC One, HTC First, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Nokia Lumia 920, and the Nokia Lumia 928, among many more.

"Although Apple and Samsung are currently the largest players in the 4G phone marketplace, the statistics point to a large growth potential for this technology in North America," noted Chitika.

According to the report, the methodology consisted of analyzing "tens of millions" of smartphone-based online ad impressions between June 1 and June 13.
