The BET Awards is all about glam and star power, and no other two artists could have been more apt to kick start the show than Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj.

The two stars who have been making headlines in the past months were all set to blaze the stage on Sunday night (June 30) at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

Brown started the show with his energetic hit "Fine China" in which the star showed off his infectious dance moves with his platoon of backup dancers. Together with Chinese fire dragon animations playing in the background, the R&B singer wore a black leather jacket while his dancer followed the theme, wearing black sweatshirts with neon "X" at the center -- a nod to the star's upcoming album "X" out July 16.

Bringing the performance a little bit down low, Breezy --as the star is famously called-- paid tribute to Aaliyah with his song "Don't Think They Know." Featuring the vocals of the late singer, black-and-white images of the star appeared on stage, MTV reports. The stage was later lit up with candles all over.

In no better timing, after the calming vocals of Brown came Nicki Minaj and her ever-explosive energy and elaborate costumes. Minaj descended from the ceiling in a perfect entrance to the song "Love More," a collaboration between Brown and the former American Idol judge.

Minaj was spitting beats and rhymes while floating high above the crowd, wearing fitted black pants and a sparkling studded bustier. Needless to say, the performance was readily a Twitter trend.

Both Minaj and Brown have been hot in the eye of the media, with the latter being entangled with a hit-and-run charge just a few weeks ago. Brown was accused of bumping a Mercedes Benz and giving the victim false information.
