"Game of Thrones" may be taking a break from its Sunday night slot, but that doesn't mean things in Kings Landing come to a complete halt. As HBO gears up for the fourth season of its hit series, news of casting decisions, shooting locations and plotline details make their way from the set to appease longing fans. Season 4 is a long ways away, but it's tidbits like these that help fans get through the long summer months and back to the approaching Winter.
"Game of Thrones" has cast Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell, aka The Red Viper, to appear in the forthcoming fourth season, according to TVLine. Oberyn is brother to the late Elia Martell, who died by the hands of Ser Gregor Clegane during the overthrow of Mad King Aery. At the time, Clegane was working for the Lannisters, so it's likely that Oberyn will arrive with a serious grudge against the powerful, blonde-haired clan.
"The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back," showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. "Unless your last name is Lannister." There you have it. The Lannisters have gained even more enemies, which is a good thing. It's about time someone put Cersei and Tywin out of their misery.
On that note, the Lannisters will have plenty on their plates moving forward into the next season. For starters, King Joffrey will finally get the axe. The little tyrant's reign of terror will come to end when he's poisoned at his own wedding, allowing fans breathe easy. But who will take over the throne?
Tywin Lannister seems like he's be able to weasel his way into the crown, but alas, he too meets his maker at the hands of his youngest son. According to the book, his youngest, Tyrion Lannister, will find his woman, Shae, in Tywin's bed, and he turns to kill her as well.
Season 4 of "Game of Thrones" will return to HBO in the spring.
