A new Apple patent has been discovered and it combines two input ports typically seen on other electronic devices.

As posted on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple submitted the "Combined Input Port" patent, which explained that it could receive different types of connectors, memory cards, and plugs.

According to Apple, the input port patent in question, invented by Changsoo Jang, "includes an outer wall defining a receiving aperture, a substrate positioned within the receiving aperture. A first set of contacts is positioned on the substrate at a first depth into the receiving aperture and a second set of contacts is positioned on a first surface of the outer wall at a second depth into the receiving aperture. The first set of contacts is configured to communicate with a first connector and the second set of contacts is configured to communicate with a second connector."

The patent application by the Cupertino-based organization explained how many electronic devices have up to multiple ports to connect to other connectors, and Apple appears to want to simplify the matter.

Apple highlighted that the combined input port may be geared for computers but it isn't limited to equally apply on any type of device.

It is unknown when the patent will be implemented on Apple devices, but with the iPhone 6 expected to launch in 2014, it may prove to be more than enough time.
