Although it's not a new version of Android, Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD owners on Verizon's network can now count themselves among recipients of a new update.
The software update, promised by Verizon some time ago, can be downloaded by by going to Settings > About Phone > Check for updates. Bear in mind that over the air (OTA) rollouts of upgrades happen in batches, meaning that not everybody will receive the firmware at the same time. Some regions will get hit first, but Verizon will eventually reach all of those under its network.
The official changes include improvements across the board in connectivity. Not only should roaming be improved, but so should USB and Wi-Fi speeds. Verizon also stated that the 8-megapixel camera has been greatly improved. The new patch should boost the camera performance in low light and its touch to focus feature.
As far as news on the big update - Android 4.2.2 - there isn't much. Neither Verizon nor Motorola have commented on the possibility of bringing the latest version of Android over to the Droid series, and any speculation is simply just that - speculation. Motorola is focused on developing its Moto X phone, which the company is gearing up to be a flagship device for both itself and Google. Verizon, as its users know, is notoriously slow at pushing out Android upgrades for its devices, so don't hold your breath on this one.
