Apple has issued a statement in support of the U.S. Supreme Court's same-sex marriage rulings on Wednesday.
As Latinos Post reported on June 26, the Supreme Court struck down the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which noted that opposite-sex marriages would be recognized and receive benefits from the federal government. The overturn of DOMA on Wednesday now allows same-sex marriage partners to receive the same benefits as heterosexual married couples.

The Supreme Court also ruled that the proponents of California's Prop 8 have no legal standing to represent the case. Therefore, same-sex marriages in California can resume.
The two rulings were decided by a 5-4 vote.
Apple, which has their headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., issued a statement.
"Apple strongly supports marriage equality and we consider it a civil rights issue. We applaud the Supreme Court for its decisions today," stated an Apple spokesman to AllThingsD.
Apple's support of same-sex issues can be traced back to the company's health benefit offerings to employed same-sex couples and publicly donating against Prop 8 in 2008.
Other tech companies weighed in, such as HP's Pride Employee Resource Group Global Communications Chair Michael Thacker.
"HP has more than 30 years of partnership with and participation in pride events, and works throughout the year to build and strengthen HP as an organization that values all employees, customers and communities," stated Thacker. "Our sponsorship at San Francisco Pride this year is a great example of how HP is committed to diversity and to creating a flexible, inclusive environment for everyone inside and outside of the company."
An Easter Egg on Google also saw the search bar transform into the pride-colored rainbow when finding topics with the word "gay," "lesbian," "transgender," or "bisexual." This feature has been available for a while but received notable attention following Wednesday's rulings.
