Fans of CBS' adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories, "Elementary," have been eager to find out any tidbit for the upcoming second season. The show, which captivated viewers with its Watson twist and change of location, has already announced that it will begin filming the second season on location in London in July. But now fans have something else to be excited about.

On Wednesday, CBS announced that Rhys Ifans has been cast in the recurring role of Sherlock's brother, Mycroft Holmes. Ifans will appear in the premiere episode, airing on September 26, a press release by CBS announced.

Executive producer and creator Robert Doherty stated, "I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard. I've always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny and Lucy, both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us."

As for the episode where Mycroft will first appear? The network teases, "In the episode, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) is called to London to revisit an old case, where he is forced to face his older brother Mycroft. Although the siblings suffered a drastic falling-out a few years earlier, Mycroft allows Sherlock and Joan (Lucy Liu) to stay in his new home, 221B Baker Street. With Joan in the middle, the brothers are forced to confront their very complicated history."

As previously reported, the season premiere will force Sherlock to face his past and will allow Joan Watson to learn "more about Holmes' mysterious life and the company he kept before he left for New York." Will Mycroft help Joan discover more about Sherlock's past?

"Elementary" season two premieres on Thursday, September 26.
