India's influence on the worldwide smartphone market has reportedly become a force to be reckoned with, says an analytical firm.

According Strategy Analytics, India has surpassed Japan to become the third largest global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2013. India's position places the second most populated country in third place among the top smartphone markets.

The top two positions are the same with China and the United States.

India's new position is credited to Apple, Samsung, and local manufacturer Micromax, which utilizes Google's Android platform.

Strategy Analytics reported India has been growing four times faster than the global average. The firm's percentage stands at 163 percent growth in comparison to last year's figures. India's year-to-year average is the highest compared to other countries. For example, China's year-to-year growth was 86 percent, Japan saw 24 percent, while the U.S. saw a growth of 19 percent.

As Latinos Post reported, the International Data Corporation noted Samsung as India's most supplied manufacturer, ahead of Nokia, with 16 percent to 15 percent. In regards to the mobile operating system market, Android accounted for 90 percent of the share.

The IDC added that the smartphone market in India grew 74 percent in comparison to the first quarter of 2012 to 2013.
