The Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming space simulator game Star Citizen has broken the record for the number one crowdfunded project of all time. The game, from Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, shot past the Pebble Watch's previous record, landing at $10,720,717, with the campaign still ongoing.

Developer Cloud Imperium Games announced the news, and wrote that it's, "a record you should be proud of. But we're just getting started!"

The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the game ended in November of 2012, raising $2,134,374. However, Cloud Imperium has continued to fundraise through its official website.

The game will feature a persistent massively multiplayer world, a singleplayer campaign, and customizable private servers. It centers around spacefaring humans in the 30th century vying for political and economic success through trade and warfare.

Director Chris Roberts has stated that it will combine elements of his previous games, Wing Commander and Freelancer, both considered to be classics. The game has been in development for more than a year now, with a late 2014 release window being targetted.

Future support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset has also been promised.
