HTC One S users recently got some bad news in the form that Android 4.2.2 might never arrive on the smartphone, and while it's no consolation, it seems that one batch of owners are getting another update. T-Mobile HTC One S owners are now in process of receiving a software update that aims to fix some issues caused by the upgrade to Jelly Bean.
The update, which will boost the HTC One S to firmware version 3.14.531.17.70RD, begins rolling out over the air (OTA) today, June 25. As is the norm with OTA updates, not everybody will get the download immediately since T-Mobile will push it out in batches.
T-Mobile states that in order to be eligible for the upgrade, an HTC One S must be running firmware 3.14.531.11 710RD, not be rooted, and have more than 50 percent battery life. The T-Mobile support page reveals that the new software is intended to increase battery life after issues that arose from the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
The update, while small, may be one of the last ones the One S receives. While initial speculation had high hopes for an Android 4.2.2 version for the One S, one insider seemed to squash any enthusiasm when he (or she) revealed that HTC had most likely canceled the project.
When responding to a question on Twitter regarding Android 4.2.2 for the HTC One S, @LlabTooFeR, a well-known HTC modder and tipster, replied that, "[the] Update will be cancelled with 95% probability."
