Both men's and women's top-seeds - Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams - cruised to victory during Day 2 of Wimbledon Centre Court action on Tuesday.

Djokovic defeated 34th-ranked Florian Mayer, beating the German 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 on Tuesday. This was Djokovic first match of the year since losing in the semifinals of the 2013 French Open to Spanish clay-court king Rafael Nadal.

"For the first round, it was tricky," said Djokovic. "I think (Mayer's) game is really well suited for grass, so it took a lot of effort."

Williams, no stranger to the All England Club's Centre Court, dismantled Luxembourg's Mandy Minella 6-1, 6-3, in 56 minutes, to move on to the second round of Wimbledon.

"For me, it's the greatest moment for a tennis player, to walk out on Centre Court," said Williams after the match. "That was such a great moment, too. So many great memories on this court."

Williams, with a career of 68-8 record at the All England Club, extended her career-best winning streak to 32 matches, including defeating Maria Sharapova for this year's French Open title.

This was also her first match since doing a controversial interview with Rolling Stone magazine in which she talked about Sharapova's love life as well as made controversial remarks in regards to the high-profile Steubenville rape case.

"It hasn't been a distraction," said Williams. "Like I said, I'm just here to focus on the tennis. I'm just here to play Wimbledon. It's the premier tournament in the world, of the year, so that's what's most important."

In other action, French Open runner-up David Ferrer overcame Argentina's Martin Alund, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, despite favoring his left ankle late in the match. Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro, who missed the French Open due to respiratory problems, defeated Spain's Albert Ramos 6-2, 7-5, 6-1, while Jeff Blake ended the U.S.'s five-match Wimbledon losing streak defeating Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-3, 6-2.

Australia's Bernard Tomic put American Sam Querrey away 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3), 3-6, 2-6, 6-3 despite Querrey's 36 aces. Tomic's father and coach, John Tomic, is barred from attending the All England Club as well as France's Roland Garros - even as a spectator, after assaulting his son's hitting partner prior to the Madrid Open.

On the women's side, 42-year-old Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm defeated 19-year-old German teen Carina Witthöft 6-0, 6-2, in just 44 minute, making her the second oldest player to win a match at Wimbledon after Martina Navratilova. Sixth-seed Li Na of China defeated Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-1. Laura Robson became the first British woman, since Sam Smith did it in 1998, to defeat a Top-10 player at Wimbledon, in 15 years, when she upset 10th-seeded Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-4.
