Amazon.com has mistakenly sent out an email that gave out a release date for the Xbox One, causing gamers to start getting false hope as Microsoft scrambled to do damage control for this false release date email.

Amazon.com had sent emails to those who preordered the Xbox One on the website, saying that the Xbox One would be available on November 27, a few days before Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. This date was not set by Microsoft, but merely was a placeholder date set by Amazon as the best guess for the console's official release date. Nevertheless, this has caused many gamers to believe that the console would be launching on that date. Microsoft has sent a clarification statement to IGN about the mix up:

"We have not informed our retail partners about a specific launch date for the Xbox One...It is commonplace for retailers to put placeholders dates and prices into our system until they are given a specific date and price. We are excited to release the Xbox One in November 2013."

Despite the falsehood of this date, it would make sense as a potential release date for the Xbox One. Call of Duty: Ghosts and Watch Dogs are set to be released in early November for current generation of consoles, so a delay of even a few weeks could reduce the momentum the games would have on the Xbox One.

Amazon.com has had a excellent week of preorders for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, to say the least. The website had the best week of preorder sales ever after Sony and Microsoft released their consoles for preorder. At the peak demand period, 2,500 Xbox Ones and PlayStation 4's were preordered every minute. Needless to say, if all those gamers got this email, then it could have caused a huge controversy if Microsoft did not nip it in the bud.
