iOS 7 Features: iOS 6 Icons Becoming 'Flat' on Latest Apple Mobile Operating System Beta [Report]

A notable feature with Apple's upcoming mobile operating system is its new icons for the pre-installed apps, however, it appears the third-party apps have automatically followed suite.

According to 9to5Mac, a few icons have already adapted to the type of icons seen on iOS 7.

The upcoming mobile platform has seen many of the pre-installed Apple icons lose its shine, gloss, and gradients for a "flat" or "simplistic" texture and one reader has pointed out third-party apps are behind the trend such as Dunkin Donuts, Klout, Sleep Cycle, and Urban Dictionary.

9to5Mac's Zac Hall noticed the different icons, namely Sleep Cycle and Dunkin Donuts.

"My first guest was somehow each app was prepared for the new appearance in iOS, and deliberately implemented these new icons on day one," wrote Hall. "But reality quickly reminded me that of all the apps to be prepped for iOS 7, these two are highly unlikely candidates."

According to Hall, the change in the icons' style may be a coincidence, however, the case for Sleep Cycle shows its new icon is sourced to a file intended for promotional work for Apple's App Store.

Another theory is the iOS 7 is automatically altering icons.

The move for Apple to establish "flat" or "simplistic" icons was a matter addressed by Apple's Senior Vice President of Design Jony Ive.

"There is a profound and enduring beauty in simplicity, in clarity, in efficiency," said Ive about the iOS 7. "True simplicity is derived from so much more than just the absence of clutter and ornamentation-it's about bringing order to complexity."

iOS 7, which will be available for all to install in the fall season, was announced during last Monday's keynote speech at the 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Immediate changes with iOS 7 include typography, icons, and new colors. Apple stated the changes may not be apparent to users at first, but claimed everything works together to create a "harmonious relationship" amongst the iOS elements.
