The rivalry between Call of Duty and Battlefield continues with the next generation of consoles, as both series plan to launch new entries this fall for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 are two of the biggest games set to appear on Microsoft and Sony's new systems (as well as current systems too), and many gamers are wondering how the games will differentiate themselves and try to lure in undecided gamers.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has yet to reveal details about the mutliplayer mode, and the developer has instead focused on the single player campaign. Features like a story written by an Oscar winning screenwriter and Riley the dog squad member have headlined Ghosts' public presence. Popular features like Zombie mode and the rest of multiplayer have not been addressed, which may sway earlier opinion of the game in comparison to Battlefield 4. In addition, Ghosts seems to focus more on stealth gameplay, which may change how the multiplayer of the game is played.

Battlefield 4 developers DICE, meanwhile, has released several details about their multiplayer, For starters, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will feature 64-player online multiplayer, a first for any console Battlefield game. The game will have massive maps filled with destructible structures, including road supports and even skyscrapers. During the E3 demo of the game, a team of players is shown parachuting off of a collapsing building in one of the most mesmerizing moments of the show. Commander mode is also returning to the series, in the form of tablet gameplay where players can issue orders on a top-down map of the battlefield.

Multiplayer has been the focus for both games for a long time, and even as both series improve the single player portions of the games, the online component has long been the deciding factor for many players. If Call of Duty: Ghosts does not come up big in it's multiplayer, then EA could run away with the competition.
