An era is coming to an end. The final season of the hit series "Dexter" is right around the corner. As fans feel bittersweet towards the approaching eighth and final season, the show's cast and crew continue to provide them with details regarding the series' rapidly approaching return. Fans have known for some time that Charlotte Rampling would play visiting neuropsychiatrist Dr. Evelyn Vogel, arriving to assist Miami Metro with a case, but now new information reveals more about her fixation with Dexter Morgan.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vogel created the "code" that Harry Morgan bestowed on Dexter as a guideline to his murderous exploits. Not only that, but she arrives in Miami asking for his assistance after becoming the target of the department's newest serial killer, "The Brain Surgeon."

"She decided Dexter was not going to be considered a monster and wasn't going to be considered mentally insane and not be put into an institution," Rampling said when discussing her role in Dexter's origins. "Dexter is a bit of a guinea pig. He's possibly one of her success stories if you think The Code is acceptable."

In addition, actress Aimee Garcia revealed to TV Fanatic that the new season will explore Dexter's unexpected decision to break his code and push his sister Debra to become a cop killer. "The scripts have more curveballs than I've ever read," Garcia said. "We'll see another side of Jaime. Things progress. Things happen."

Showrunner Scott Buck is also spilling some details about the show's final season. In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Buck said the show's ending will leave fans satisfied. "It feels like the exact ending we should be doing," Buck said. "Ideally it will make our audience sit back and see Dexter a little more clearly than before. It should absolutely make sense to everybody watching it."

Executive producer Sara Colleton added, "It won't feel like a 'What the f---?'...We know we have the right ending, we just have to execute it correctly. There's no emotional investments that aren't going to be resolved."

"Dexter" returns to Showtime on June 30.
