With the news that Final Fantasy Versus 13 is now heading to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as Final Fantasy 15, patient fans have been vindicated for their long wait and trust. Team Ico's The Last Guardian now occupies the same nebulous space that Versus 13 did just two days ago, in a black hole of media coverage. The PS3-exclusive, which was first announced back in 2009 is reportedly on haitus, according to sony. However, the delay may shift development to the PS4, if the game does in fact ship.

During an interview with GameTrailers, Sony execution Jack Tretton revealed that The Last Guardian, which featured a young boy and his massive pet, is on the backburner for the company, and is officially on hiatus due to the amount of projects Sony has in the works:

"The cool thing about our worldwide development studios is we have so many projects out there from so many different teams...Projects never ultimately go away. The Last Guardian isn't going away but is on hiatus right now."

While it sounds like the game is not officially dead, the game has been plagued with rumors about technical problems. In addition, due to the delay in the game's development, the game may be forced to switch to the PlayStation 4, much like Final Fantasy Versus 13. The game was originally announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive four years ago.

Eurogamer spoke to another member of Sony's brass, Jim Ryan about the game, and he had this to say about the title:

"I don't believe it's been cancelled. Had it been cancelled, some sort of announcement would have been made. I think the watch-word is patience."

When pressed about the game going next-gen, he merely laughed, but at this point it would almost certainly have to move to the new console, unless an announcement about the game is made very, very soon. With the cult following Ico and Shadow of the Colossus has built for Team Ico, many fans hope to see The Last Guardian at some point, next-gen or not.
