The Oscar race is starting to heat up with many films starting to garner Best Picture buzz.

After the Cannes Film Festival, a number of films garnered critical acclaim and obtained Oscar buzz. The biggest film was "Inside Llewyn Davis" which won the Grand Prize of the Jury. The film, directed by the Coen Brothers, also received buzz for its lead actor Oscar Issacs as well as for actress Carey Mulligan. The last time the Coens went to Cannes was with their Oscar winning film "No Country For Old Men.". As a result many pundits have already put "Davis" as one of the biggest Oscar contenders of the year.

J.C Chandor's second feature "All is Lost" also opened to rave reviews. The film stars Robert Redford and was praised for its scope and its unique vision. Chandor already has an Oscar nomination for his first feature "Margin Call" and with a word of mouth, this film could easily win over voters come Decmeber.

Two features currently in theaters that have scored the best reviews of the year and have done well at the Box office include "Mud" and "Before Midnight." "Mud" premiered at Cannes in 2012 and was praised for its performances and engaging drama. Oscar prognosticators have not put it on the radar but strong reviews and an early release could help it because it will give voters a chance to see it before the crowded months of November and December.

"Before Midnight" has received buzz ever since it had its world premiere at the Sundance Film festival. The movie currently has a 98% aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is part of a trilogy which previously received one Oscar nomination. "Midnight" has already been called the best of the three films and with an early start it can easily catch the attention of voters and audiences.

Other films that have garnered traction include "August: Osage County," "Fruitvale Station," "Gravity," and "Blue Jasmine." The trailers premiered a few weeks ago prompting pundits to commence buzz.

A couple of films that have also seen massive buzz due to their directors include David O. Russell's "American Hustle," Martin Scorsese's "Wolf of Wall Street," Alexander Payne's "Nebraska," George Clooney's "Monument's Men," Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave," and Bennett Miller's "FoxCatcher."

Other films in the mix include "Dallas Buyers Club, "The Immigrant," "Captain Phillips," "Philomena," "The Counselor" "The Butler," "The Great Gatsby," "Rush," "The Past" and "Her."
