The liars are back. Tomorrow night marks the return of "Pretty Little Liars," and fans couldn't be more excited. Season 3 ended on one of the most jaw dropping cliffhangers of all time, and the season 4 premiere will pick up right where it left off. Not only will fans finally get to see who or what is inside the trunk, but the first episode will also take a quick step back in time, featuring none other than the little little liars.
"A is for A-L-I-V-E" premieres tomorrow evening and will feature the young counterparts of Hanna, Aria, Emily and Spencer during several brief flashbacks, according to "Pretty Little Liars" writer Joseph Dougherty. And what about the Thornhill Lodge fire? In the "Pretty Little Liars" season 3 finale, an unknown culprit knocks an unsuspecting Toby out cold, however he does leave a mysterious piece of evidence: a lighter with a mysterious insignia that potentially links Toby to the fire at Thornhill Lodge.
The insignia serves as a compass, but not in the traditional sense. It includes markings for north, south, west and east, but displays a fifth marking that points northwest. According to Wetpaint, the northwest arrow is a reference to Alfred Hitchcock's thriller novel North By Northwest, in which the protagonist, Mr. Thornhill, shares a name with the lodge that went up in flames in the season 3 finale. In the book, Thornhill is the victim of a mistaken identity, so perhaps Toby is framed for the fire. It's likely that his attacker leaves him unconscious and plants the lighter to cover his own tracks. But who is the culprit?
