Warner Bros. announced that the trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" will premiere on June 11.

The company revealed the first poster and stated that new teaser trailer would premiere online at 10 am. The preview will also launch in front of screenings for the upcoming "Man of Steel" which opens Friday June 14.

Director Peter Jackson's spokesperson also said in an email that fans "can expect a surprise or two in this week's trailer, but can't say anything more than that!"

"The Desolation of Smaug" is the second film in "The Hobbit" trilogy. It will continue Bilbo and the Dwarves' journey to the Mountains to get back the Dwarve's gold from Smaug the dragon.

The film will star Ian McKellan, Martin Freeman, Sylvester McCoy, Elijah Wood, Lee Pace, and Richard Armitage. Benedict Cumberbatch will play Smaug and the Necromancer while Welsh actor  Luke Evans will play Bard the Bowman. Canadian actress Evangelibe Lily will also join the cat as the elf Tauriel.

Christopher Lee, Stephen Fry, Andy Serkis, and Ian Holm will also make appearances.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was the first in the new series and was met with mixed reviews. Critics called the film overlong and compared it to the original trilogy. The Hollywood Reporter stated, "There are elements in this new film that are as spectacular as much of the Rings trilogy was, but there is much that is flat-footed and tedious as well, especially in the early going."

Meanwhile Variety was a bit more positive stated, "Fulfilling just a fraction of J.R.R. Tolkien's "There and Back Again" subtitle, The Hobbit alternately rewards and abuses auds' appetite for all things Middle-earth."

The film however was a box office success making $303 million domestically and over $1 billion worldwide. It was also nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens on December 13.
