The Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga has seemingly come to an end. The superstar told reporters on Friday that he was hoping to work out a deal with his current team Real Madrid.

"I am well, calm and not worried about it. I know we will reach a deal," said the Real Madrid superstar.

Manchester United recently revealed that it would double its efforts to lure in its former superstar, but the forward's recent statements have essentially dashed the English sides hopes of landing the biggest fish in the transfer market.

Ronaldo's recent comments are in line with those of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. The Madrid official has been adamant about his desire to keep Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of his career.

"There are no open negotiations at the moment, that will be from July. My opinion is that Cristiano will retire at Real Madrid, that is his dream, and the club's too. Some people think that negotiations are done in the newspapers," said Perez. "I will do everything in my power to renew the contract. He has two years left on his contract, he is the best in the world and we would like to give a boost to the team with him as a leader and an emblem," said Perez. "I would not sell him for 1,000 million euros (1 billion Euros). We are not a selling club."

ESPN's Musa Okwanga recently wrote an article in which he argued that Ronaldo's "desire" to return to Manchester United was simply a tactic to get a better contract from his current club. "It would be romantic indeed if Ronaldo were to go back to Old Trafford; so much so, that it is tempting to be seduced by such a wonderful notion," wrote Okwanga. "But the logic which is most compelling at the moment is that of the money men. Robbie Fowler once said that 'there is no sentiment in football.' Sadly, this situation does not appear to be the exception to that rule."

Ronaldo is currently signed with Real Madrid until 2015.
