One of the biggest tournaments in golf kicks off next week, and Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, the two best golfers in the world, will be paired together in two big rounds.

Woods and McIlroy, the No.1 and 2-ranked golfers in the world, respectively, will be joined by No.3 in the world Adam Scott, the winner of the 2013 Masters in April, will all tee off in the first round of the 2013 U.S. Open, which kicks off next Thursday, June 13. The trio of superstar golfers will tee off both in the first and second rounds.

As ESPN.com notes, the tourney marks the first time Woods and McIlroy have been paired together in any of the major championships.

Both Woods and McIlroy are coming off a disappointing showing in the PGA Memorial tournament, both of them struggling through much of the tourney, where Woods finished 20 shots back while McIlroy closed out the tournament at 18 strokes behind.

However, Woods has had some better luck in the last few months, having won four of his last six tournaments, including the Players Championship. Woods and McIlroy have played in the same group 12 times on record, Woods shooting a better score in nine of those times. The last time the two played together was during the first rounds of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in March; Woods won that tournament.

Woods, who won the Open in 2008, the last one of his career 14 major tournament wins, seeks to end his majors dry spell while McIlroy hopes to win his a major tournament for the third consecutive year.

Joining Woods, McIlroy and Scott in the U.S. Open tournament will be a stacked card of skilled competitors including Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Keegan Bradley, all grouped together along with: Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose and Brandt Snedeker; and European Ryder Cup stars Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer.
