Justin Bieber In Space: Celebrity Signs Up For Virgin Galactic Flight

Justin Bieber is going into space. Literally.

The pop star has signed up to be one of Virgin Galactic's astronauts as its SpaceShipTwo gets ready to blast off into outer space.

The news was announced by Virgin Galactic's billionaire founder, Richard Branson. In a tweet last Thursday, Branson thanked the Biebs and his manager, Scooter Braun, for signing up-and spending $250,000-to join the galactic launch.

"Great to hear @justinbieber & @scooterbraun are latest @virgingalactic future astronauts. Congrats, see you up there!" tweeted Branson.

In confirmation, Bieber retweeted the post and shortly after told his 40 million followers that he's looking at making a video in outer space.

"@richardbranson @scooterbraun @virgingalactic let's shoot a music video in SPACE!! #nextLEVEL," Justin posted on the social networking site.

Scooter also had his own say on the issue, sending his own acknowledgment tweet saying: "I'm going to space momma!"

According to Yahoo!, Virgin Galactic announced the success of its SpaceShipTwo last April. It will be the first rocket-powered flight and is expected to blast off by the end of the year.

"The first powered flight of Virgin Spaceship Enterprise was without any doubt, our single most important flight test to date," explained Branson according to Yahoo! "For the first time, we were able to prove the key components of the system, fully integrated and in flight. Today's supersonic success opens the way for a rapid expansion of the spaceship's powered flight envelope, with a very realistic goal of full space flight by the year's end."

The spacecraft will be able to sit over 530 people.

Joining Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun in the world's first commercial flight into space are other notable celebrities. Tom Hanks, Ashton Kutcher, Victoria Principal and scientist Stephen Hawking are also set to go into space.

Leonardo DiCaprio was also reported to be one of the astronauts of the flight. Yahoo! also noted that last May, at the Cannes Film Festival, amfAR's annual gala auctioned a seat at the flight right beside DiCaprio. The seat went as high as $1.5 million.
