While Google's mobile platform saw an increase, Apple's iOS saw a decline. The Apple mobile operating system garnered 28.1 percent of the market share, down 2.5 percent from the 30.6 percent from the same period last year.

Microsoft saw a minor gain of one percent, enough for a third place finish. Microsoft's Windows Phone achieved 5.1 percent by the end of April 2013, up from 2012's 4.1 percent.

Meanwhile, BlackBerry is not performing as well, placing fifth behind Symbian's 1.5 percent. BlackBerry accounted for 0.3 percent, down 0.4 percent from last year.

Android's lead over iOS in Australia is far greater compared to Kantar's U.S. figures. According to Kantar Worldpanel, while the Android mobile platform leads in the U.S. market share, iOS reaped 41.4 percent while Android reached 51.7 percent, a difference of 10.3 percent.
