PS4 vs. Xbox One Games: 6 Confirmed Next-Gen Titles - Who Has The Edge?

With E3 fast approaching, we're going to start to see a lot more in terms of both Microsoft and Sony's next-gen launch title line-up. Until then though, here are a few of the biggest confirmed titles so far.

Xbox One

Quantum Break

With both Max Payne and Alan Wake behind them, Remedy Entertainment is moving on with a mysterious new IP. Quantum Break was revealed with a blend of live-action and gameplay footage at the Xbox One reveal event, likely making it one of Microsoft's big E3 items.

While pretty much everything about the game is currently unknown, Remedy has stated that a companion TV series is in the works (fitting considering the theme of the Xbox One unveiling). They state that "how you play the game impacts the show, and the show informs how you play the game."

Ryse

Crytek, the creators of the Crysis series, is trying their hand at their first console exclusive. Ryse will be a hack and slash action game where players take on the role of a Roman soldier. While unconfirmed, reports indicate that the game may rely heavily on the new Kinect 2.0, leading some to believe that it may be some kind of sword fighting simulator.

Forza Motorsport 5

The next installment in the Forza series of racing simulators will be released as an Xbox One launch exclusive. The game was revealed during the console's reveal event with a gameplay trailer showcasing a McLaren P1 racing against a McLaren F1. It seems likely that Microsoft hopes this game will beat out the PS4's own car game exclusive, Drive Club.

PlayStation 4

Deep Down

Not much is known about Deep Down except for the fact that it will be about fighting dragons, which frankly, is all I needed to hear. The new IP is being developed by Capcom, and if the trailer was any indication, will feature some interesting online features. We'll hopefully find out a lot more about this new console exclusive at E3.

Infamous: Second Son

The third entry in the Infamous series, Second Son will feature a brand new protagonist and will take place several years after the events centering around Cole MacGrath and the Beast. Instead of Cole's electricity based powers, the new character, Delsin Rowe, will be able to copy the abilities of other conduits.

The game's story will revolve around a dystopian near-future U.S. where the government has installed a huge network of security cameras to monitor and capture "bioterrorists," aka conduits. It will follow Delsin as he attempts to escape from the Department of United Protection, a special security force assembled to bring down conduits.

Killzone: Shadow Fall

Guerilla Games' Killzone: Shadow Fall will be the sixth game in the series, as well as one of the biggest launch titles for the upcoming PlayStation 4. The game is set 30 years after Killzone 3, with the Helghast population resettled on the planet Vekta.

A gorgeous trailer was shown at the PS4 reveal event, and while it looked as good as a cinematic cut scene, the developers insist that it was in-game footage. In fact, the demo shown only used 4 of the 8GB of GDDR5 RAM available on the final hardware, making Killzone a likely contender of best looking game of 2013.

Verdict

Overall it seems like Sony is making an early push for showcasing their games lineup, while Microsoft seems content to wait until E3. Popular PlayStation exclusives such Infamous and Killzone have already debuted with trailers, previews, and screenshots. Meanwhile, big, blockbuster franchises on the Xbox side of things, such as Halo or Gears of War, have been completely absent from the console's PR campaign, leaving many wondering if and when we would hear more about them. With Sony's aggressive marketing strategy, it seems they have captured an early lead in terms of launch title buzz. Really though, it's going to come down to E3 to see which console will reign supreme in the exclusives department.
