According to Boxing Promoter, Bob Arum, there is a big possibility that Manny Pacquiao will not fight in the United States anymore.
Arum says the taxes for the Filipino Fighter are outrageously high in US, considering he is a foreign athlete.
"By fighting outside the country, as he's doing in this Rios fight, Manny doesn't have to pay U.S. taxes anymore - at a rate of 40% for a foreign athlete," the promoter told the Los Angeles Times.
By allowing Pacquiao to fight in Macau, China against the former Oxnard world lightweight champion Brandon Rios on November 23, the boxer doesn't only save up on taxes but could also earn more on pay-per-views.
"If this pay-per-view and other things take off like we think they may, I can't imagine Pacquiao will ever again fight in the U.S."
Arum noted that the fight will be held in the morning of November 24 at a gambling resort in Macau to allow the millions of American fans that would want to watch the bout. US pay-per-views will air on Saturday evening.
The LA Times also reported that the promoter was also able to seal a deal allowing Chinese fans to watch the Pacquiao-Rios fight on their tablets and cellphones for only an equivalent amount of $5.
"We could do as many as $10 million to $20 million in sales with this. It changes everything. Will it work? We'll see in November."
Arum also answered questions about the ever awaited Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
It was noted that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be taking on unbeaten Mexican world super-welterweight champion, Saul "Carmelo" Alvarez, in Las Vegas on September 14. Implications were drawn from the fighter's move that he could be at his most confident state now and could make another attempt at a Pacquiao fight possible next year. To this, Arum answered:
"Let's not even go there."
