The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to even their series with the Boston Bruins when the two sides meet on Monday in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.
The Penguins were outplayed in a 3-0 loss and are trailing in the series for the first time during this postseason. The Penguins won Game 1 against the Islanders and Senators and never lost two in a row in these playoffs.
"It's a situation we haven't been in yet, going down in a series, going down 1-0. You know, we're going to have to put away Game 1, they won that, they got the first win," said Penguins coach Dan Bylsma. "We're going to have to come back with better focus to our game, more patience to how we play. Rebound with the home game we have here coming up here in Game 2."
One of the reasons that the team lost was the erratic play of goaltender Thomas Vokoun. After being Pittsburgh's savior against the Islanders, Vokoun was terrific against the Senators. However, he looked nervous throughout Game 1 and gave up a lot of juicy rebounds to the Boston defense. Despite the shaky play, Bylsma made it clear that he was sticking with his goaltender.
"We lost Game 1, but Tomas I thought played real well in the game," Bylsma said. "He made big saves."
The Bruins know that the Penguins will come out with a better effort in the second game in order to defend home ice advantage.
"I expect them to have a big game," Bruins center Patrice Bergeron said. "They're players who have character, and I don't even need to say they're excellent players."
Prediction: Pittsburgh wins Game 2 by the score of 4-2.
