Tiger Woods finds himself falling behind an impressive crop of competitors on the greens at Muirfield Village Golf Club as the 2013 PGA Tour Memorial Golf Tournament continues Saturday.
Woods, the No.1-ranked golf player in the world, has been looking off compared to the torrid pace at which he was playing entering the tournament, hitting only two-over 74 on Friday through 36 holes to finish at 145, keeping himself a mere two strokes head of the three over-par cut line.
As a result of his poor showing on Friday, the defending champion Woods, who won the Players Championship in May, finds himself 10 strokes behind Bill Haas, who is atop the leaderboard after hitting 5-under 67 in the rain. Rory McIlroy, the No.2 player in the world, also has been struggling at Muirfield, needing five birdies to avoid missing the cut. Keegan Bradley shot 74 while Fred Couples netted 75 for Friday.
Heading into Saturday, Woods needs to give an impressive performance over the weekend if he wants to have any hope of winning the fifth of his last six tournaments he played in or defend his Memorial Tournament title.
"I haven't won every tournament I've played in," he said on Friday. "I'm not too disappointed with it. It's not that far off. And on a golf course like this with wind gusts like this, it's tough."
It's not often that Woods falls in danger of missing a cut, the decorated golfer having missed only nine cuts in his 17-year PGA Tour career. However, he did miss a cut earlier this year at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, so it can happen.
Nonetheless, Woods appeared game to try and overcome those odds in hopes of winning once again at Muirfield, a place where he has enjoyed a lot of success in the past.
"We'll see what happens," he added.
