Joss Whedon admitted that he regrets not being able to direct "Star Wars Episode 7"

"The Avengers" director recently told Empire Magazine that he always wanted to helm a "Star Wars" film. He stated, "There was a moment of rue that I was already committed. I'm not going to lie. Who doesn't want to do that as a kid?''

The director, who is currently promoting his latest film "Much Ado About Nothing," told the magazine that he believes the producers got the right team to work on the film. He said, "I think they got the right guy so just knowing that I'm going to enjoy the film when it comes out is great. It's going to be great and I don't have to do any work!"

Whedon was one of the favorites to direct the next "Star Wars" installment before Abrams got the job earlier this year.

Along with Whedon's confession, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe told Time Out London that he was interested in being in the new film. The actor said, "Franchise mustn't become a dirty word. If directors like J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon keep doing what they're doing, it won't be. I'd love to be part of one again. Maybe not leading it: a nice supporting role. In 'Star Wars'? Yeah, that'd be awesome. That'd be crazy cool."

Radcliffe will next be seen as Alan Ginsberg in "Kill Your Darlings."

Casting for "Star Wars Episode 7" has yet to be announced but Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are rumored to star in the film.

Abrams' frequent editing team of Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey are already confirmed for the space opera while Darren Gilford is also credited as the production designer. Costume designer Michael Kaplan will create the wardrobe. Composer John Williams recently showed interest in the project. He stated, "We've certainly talked about that, and I'm happy and willing to do it."

"Star Wars Episode 7" is slated to begin shooting in the UK in 2014 with Abrams directing, Kathleen Kennedy producing and Michael Arndt writing the script.
