David Beckham is reportedly working out with a Miami-based businessman in an attempt to form an MLS expansion football club in South Beach, a reliable source disclosed on Wednesday.
Reuters sports correspondent Simon Evans first reported Beckham's plan to own a football team with Miami emerging as the top prospect for the football star.
"Fascinating development in Beckham - MLS Miami process - billionaire Marcelo Claure to meet with Beckham this week," Evans posted on his Twitter account.
Beckham, who recently ended his stellar football career with French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, is scheduled to travel to Miami this week to meet Bolivian side Bolívar owner Marcelo Claure for an exploratory talk about putting up a football team in Miami.
"Understand that any Beckham meetings will be still of an exploratory nature and no decisions on location for his franchise taken yet," Evans added.
Claure previously tried to come up with an MLS expansion bid in Miami, but his pitch didn't get enough support from the community and the MLS board.
But with Beckham showing his interest in running a football club of his own, Miami is in great position of having their first professional football team playing in Major League Soccer.
Aside from Miami, Beckham is also targeting other cities to host his future football team and may visit some other cities as part of his exploration of possible locations for a new MLS franchise.
The 38-year-old Beckham helped revolutionize soccer in the United States after he decided to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.
After winning two titles with the ball club, Beckham gave his soccer career one more chance when he signed a five-month deal with PSG in January.
Beckham just became the second English football player to win league titles in four different countries after PSG bagged the Ligue 1 title this year.
