Once again, it's time for some of the best tennis players in the world to take part in one of tennis' great Grand Slam events, the 2013 French Open, to kick off from the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France on Sunday.

Across the board in both the women's and men's groups, the match-ups involve some of the sport's best and brightest, with names including Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer and more.

In the men's competition, Rafael Nadal has won three straight times--and a record seven titles--on the clay court in Paris. He seeks to win a fourth consecutive title at the French Open, but he will be tested by a stacked field of competition. Arguably his biggest obstacle could be No.1-seeded Novak Djokovik, who faced him last year in a heart-stopping French Open final. Because of the way the sets were arranged in the draw, it is possible that Nadal and Djokovik could square off in the semifinals this year. But in the first round, Nadal will face Daniel Brands of Germany in Round 1, while Djokovik takes on David Goffin.

Roger Federer will also be among those tennis players who will throw his hat into the mix, as well as David Ferrer.

Meanwhile, in the women's tournament, Williams, the No.1 seed in the tournament, looks to earn her second French Open title in her career, but Sharapova, the reigning champion, will be gunning for her second straight French Open title. Challenging them both will be Sara Errani, who will be in Williams' half of the bracket, and world No.3-ranked Victoria Azarenka, who is locked in Sharapova's half and could very well challenge the defending champion in tournament action. Lin Na, the 2011 champion , will take on Azarenka in the opening round

The Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, are also entering the doubles tournament of the French Open for the first time in three years. The last time the Williams sisters competed together was in 2010, when they won the doubles tourney by defeating Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik in straight sets. Together, Venus and Serena have won 13 Grand Slam trophies in women's doubles, making them a formidable duo. Can any team stop them?
