The HTC One could be getting an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in the next few weeks, according to a leaker with a good track record.

"@ibolito_ @Hawk1902 Sorry, my bad, thought you were asking about Senseless HTC One :) About HTC One 4.2.2 I'd expect it in 2-3 weeks...," tweeted @LlabTooFeR, the same leaker who predicted the HTC First with Facebook Home and the HTC M4 Mini.

If the rumor is true, the update would give consumers one more thing to consider when deciding between the HTC One and its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy S4. The S4 ships with Android 4.2.2 already installed. HTC had hinted at a quick update, but until now there had been no word of a release.

In general, HTC's Sense 5.0 interface is considered superior to Samsung's TouchWiz, so customers who want the intuitive ease of Sense with all the latest features of Android 4.2.2 won't need to decide between the two anymore.

HTC needs the boost. Supply shortages kept the phone off the shelves for weeks after its planned worldwide debut, leading to dismal revenue in the first quarter of this year.

Now HTC has doubled production of the One, though those devices are due out by the end of the month, before this Android 4.2.2 update is set to hit. A simple push to all connected handsets will remedy that, but it does mean the update will need to be bug free. HTC can't afford any kinks across the entire line.

The HTC One features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 2300 mAh Li-Po battery, a 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.

Check back for the latest updates on the HTC One as they become available.
