The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will debut at IFA 2013 trade fair in Berlin in September, according to unnamed officials at Samsung quoted in the Korea Times.
Those same officials say the eagerly anticipated smartphone/tablet hybrid will have a 5.9-inch screen, about an inch smaller than previous rumors suggest.
"The Suwon, Gyeonggi Province-based outfit is developing the Note3 with a 5.9-inch OLED display. The device will debut at this year's IFA trade fair in Berlin, Germany, officials said," writes the Korea Times.
In addition, Samsung co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun seemed skeptical when asked whether the Note 3 will have a flexible plastic display. "More time will be needed," he said, suggesting that either the technology won't be ready before the fall or Samsung won't have time to produce enough displays for the launch of such a popular device.
Still, Shin didn't rule out a flexible screen, so it's still possible. Recent rumors say the Note 3 will look much like a larger version of the Galaxy S4, which itself is not a radical departure from the design themes of the Galaxy S3 and the Note 2.
Over the last year, Samsung's design choices have been relatively cautious. While each new device has made technical improvements upon previous models, the advances have been small on the whole, with Samsung relying mostly on marketing muscle to push products off the shelves.
The Galaxy Note 3 is still a long way off and won't be released until later this year. But rumors indicate it will have a 5.9-inch or 6-inch Super AMOLED display with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, an eight-core Mali 450 graphics processing unit, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, a bigger battery and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
