Utah Couple Finds 40,000 Bees Living In Their Walls [Video]

In a pretty disturbing new house horror story, a Utah couple discovered almost 40,000 bees living in the bedroom walls of their home. It actually took the two a little while to find the problem, but after five months in the house, they took notice of all the bees around the property.

It was then they started to detect a buzzing sound coming from within the walls of the house.

"We were just sitting on our couch, turned off the TV and could hear some buzzing in the walls," homeowner Tyler Judd told KSL-TV.

The couple turned to beekeeper Al Chubak to take care of the colony, who discovered that the house was home to approximately 40,000 bees. Chubak reportedly used a vacuum to safely remove and relocate the hive itself, and later stated that the bees had most likely been living inside the building for three or four years.

During that span, the infestation had unfortunately damaged the house's insulation.

"They're actually taking the insulation out and they're putting their honeycomb and their hive in its place," Judd stated.

This apparently isn't as uncommon as most people would like to assume. Photojournalist Larry Chen moved into a property in Los Angeles and noticed an abnormal number of bees flying in and out of his window.

After finding a bee specialist on Craigslist, he discovered that a total of eight honeycombs had been embedded behind his walls, playing host to almost 50,000 bees. Chen had initially not noticed them because he spent most of his time outside of his home.

The bees had apparently entered through ventilation pipes in the attic and through openings in a window. During the removal and relocation process, the bee specialist was stung four times, and Chen was stung once. Chen documented the entire affair in a video you can watch below.
