The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs ended with a bang and now the semifinals kick off on Tuesday as the NHL action on the ice continues.

The Boston Bruins ended the Toronto Maple Leafs' season and their bid to overturn a 3-1 deficit in the series with a dramatic 5-4 overtime win to take Game 7 in Boston. Down 3 in the third period, Boston scored two goals with 30 seconds left in the game and then won it in overtime with 6:05 left on a goal from Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins now move on to the semifinals.

And their opponent? The New York Rangers, who dominated Game 7 in Washington on Tuesday as the Rangers shut out the Capitals 5-0 behind 35 saves from Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist and five Rangers scoring five goals. The Rangers won the series 4-3.

Now, the semifinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin on Tuesday with a showdown in Pittsburgh as the Ottawa Senators visit Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Senators closed out the Montreal Canadians in five games on May 9, while the Penguins vanquished the New York Islanders Saturday with a 4-3 win in Game 6 to take that series 4-2.

During the regular season series, Pittsburgh swept all three games against the Senators. That does not bode well for the Senators, who have moved on to the second round for the first time since 2007, when they advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals against the eventual champion Anaheim Ducks. Can the Senators reverse their fortunes and repeat the magic of 2007, or will Crosby and the Atlantic Division champion Penguins be too much to overcome?

Then at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., when the defending Stanley Cup Champion L.A. Kings take on the San Jose Sharks. The Kings are coming off a 4-2 series win over the St. Louis Blues while the Sharks just came off a dominating 4-0 sweep of the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings and the Canucks split their four-game season series at two games apiece. Now, with the stakes higher than ever, can the Kings take another step towards defending their title, or will the Sharks devour L.A.?
