iOS 7 Features Concept: 'Almost Flat' Design Created by Visual Designer

Potential iOS 7 designs continue to spark the interest of visual developers as a new fan concept was revealed.

Following comments by Apple executive Jonathon Ive about designing a "flat" iOS 7, Tim Green detailed his idea of the next mobile operating system.

"The talk about how Apple are going to 'flatten out' their UI style has set the rumour-mills ablaze with completely spurious conjecture. So I thought I'd add to it," wrote Green on Medium.com. However, let's approach this not from 'what one insider source told someone' but instead from evidence of progression within some of the top iOS apps."

Green first discussed the app icons. In his concept, the gloss of the icons are gone, minus a few keeping a "hint" of texture or stripe.

According to Green, the direction Apple may be leading to is not necessarily the "flat" design as media reports state but a "mellowing out of the visual indicators that people need to trigger the idea of a tappable element."

The visual designer credited the design changes Google and Facebook have respectively made in their iOS apps and theorized that the companies likely have an idea of the iOS 7's user interface and styling.

Although admitting the idea of vertically stacked cards, such as the tabs used in Google Chrome and Evernote which has it on a Y-axis instead of going on the traditional X-axis, may not be a "common idea," Green believes it may be the start of something more.

Another change is the removal of button frames from apps and instead only leaving the icon. The move may resemble what's seen on Android devices, and emphasizes the "flat" idea.

"I'm not convinced Apple will necessarily remove them from their native styling but perhaps might at least de-emphasise them," added Green.
