New rumors say the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will not have a flexible display.
Samsung doesn't have the current manufacturing capacity to produce flexible displays before the slated release of the smartphone/tablet hybrid later this year, says a report from Samsung and Korea Investment & Securities.
"Although equipment for most processes has been delivered and the supply of remaining equipment (only for a specific process) should be finalized in 1H13, we cannot say SD is ready to massproduce flexible OLED panels. Production technology still seems incomplete, and even assuming the start of production in 2H13, shipments that can be supplied to finished products would be minimal. As such, we believe chances are slim for SEC to adopt flexible OLED panels for its Galaxy Note 3 (slated for release in 2H13). SEC will likely choose flexible OLED for its smartphones as a differentiating design feature but would need more time to adopt it for the major models," says the report.
Instead, the Note 3 will feature a more traditional AMOLED display, a Samsung staple that they'll have no problem manufacturing. That fits with other rumors we've heard previously. This report says it will be 6 inches, basically the same as the 5.99-inch display we've also heard about, though some reports ay it will be as "small" as 5.9 inches.
The Galaxy Note 3 is still a long way off and won't be released until later this year. But rumors indicate it will have a 5.9-inch or 6-inch Super AMOLED display with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, an eight-core Mali 450 graphics processing unit, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, a bigger battery and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. An unconfirmed source says the Note 3 will debut in Berlin in September.
