For the second time in his career, Tiger Woods is the winner of the Players Championship.

Woods, the No.1-ranked player in the world, ended up trumping bitter rival Sergio Garcia, who battled him all weekend long in the 2013 Players Championship, to take home the coveted title Sunday at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla .

Garcia held a portion of the lead on 13-under with Woods. However, disaster struck Garcia on the 17th hole when he hit into the water twice, notching a quadruple bogey after Woods parred the island hole. The bogeys marked a stunning collapse for Garcia, who would have won his second Players title since his 2008 win.

After finding land on the last two holes, Woods did just enough to finally snap a more than a decade-long drought at the Players Championship. The last time Woods won at the Players was in 2001.

His other competition, rookie pro golfer David Lingmerth of Sweden, could have forced a playoff, but he missed a long put, and three putts later, Lingmerth ended up with a bogey.

Woods, who won his fourth tournament of the year and padded his lead in the FedexCup standings, also joined some illustrious company in Fred Couples, Davis Love III and Steve Elkington as the only two-time winners at the TPC Sawgrass. As ABC News notes, the win also marks Woods' 78th career win on the PGA tour.

However, what really drew headlines heading into the Sunday final was the war of words between Woods and Garcia, the latter who complained that he was disrupted on his shot from the par-5 second fairway Saturday when people began cheering around Woods, who was taking a golf club out of his bag about 50 yards away.

Garcia said Woods should have been paying attention, and admitted that he and the No.1 golfer in the world didn't see eye-to-eye, saying that Woods was "not the nicest guy on the tour."

"Not real surprising that he's complaining about something," Woods said.

"At least I'm true to myself," Garcia retorted. "I know what I'm doing, and he can do whatever he wants."

Woods was also cheered on by his girlfriend, Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn, who arrived at the TPC Sawgrass this weekend to cheer on her man.
