Is AT&T set to unlock the Nokia Lumia 920?

Posting on Reddit's Windows Phone thread, imaque wrote, "Just got my L920 unlock code from AT&T tech support."

Imaque added the he wanted to share the information in case if another AT&T has done the same to other Lumia 920 devices.

"Did you have to call them? Can you explain the process. Is it free? And also HELLL F*CKING YESSSS!!" responded ingi0m4r.

Imaque explained the process took about five minutes after going on AT&T online and chatting with tech support.

Is it that easy to obtain a code to unlock the device?

Seems like it.

Daggerx222 wrote, "I called the number you said. Gave the girl the phones IMEI number that was on the side of the phones box, and she gave me the code."

He noted there was no hassle and that he was never an AT&T customer. The process was "simple and painless" and now his Lumia device works on T-Mobile.

AT&T does have a page online devoted to requesting a device unlock for its phones and tablets.

According to AT&T, they will unlock a mobile device under the following conditions:

- The person requesting the unlock must be a current AT&T customer or a former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account or a non-AT&T customer with an AT&T Device.

- The AT&T Mobile Device was designed for use on AT&T's network.

- The AT&T Mobile Device has not been reported lost or stolen.

Mobile unlock requests may be completed within 48 hours but may take as long as five business days.

AT&T, however, does note it "reserves the right to deny any unlock request that it concludes would result in an abuse of this policy or is part of an effort to defraud AT&T or its customers. AT&T further reserves the right to alter this unlocking policy at its discretion without advance notice."
