The ride is almost over. It's been eight long years since we've heard new studio material from Daft Punk. The past several months have been particularly excruciating since the French duo announced their return. Now with only a week and a half to go, what seemed like a pipedream is finally becoming a reality. In anticipation of the new album, we've heard interviews from the collaborators, a slew of subtle ads and a No. 1 single. Earlier today, fans got an even greater taste of the Daft Punk nectar when Australia's Triple J Radio aired a rare audio interview with the robots.

In the interview, Daft Punk talk extensively about "Get Lucky," the No. 1 single mentioned earlier, as well as the recording process of Random Access Memories and the origin of the album title. The duo says "Get Lucky" speaks for "the collective we," designed to be "optimistic" and "celebratory" in a "world not so optimistic."

Fans who have desperately been waiting for a Random Access Memories tour will be disappointed to learn that Daft Punk have no plans of touring as of yet. "We spent five years working on this record... that's really the first step by releasing it is we'd like to have people experience the record as the focal point."

Now that doesn't mean there won't be a subsequent tour, just that fans might have to wait a little while longer. But as the group points out, we'll have a brand new album to feast on in the meantime. Not all is lost.

Towards the end of the interview, Daft Punk is asked about their decision to host the global album premiere in Wee Waa Australia. "It feels like [Australia] understands our music. It could be anywhere, that's what the record is made for, anywhere and everywhere." Listen to the entire interview here at Consequence of Sound.

Random Access Memories will hit stores May 21 via Daft Life Limited, an imprint of Columbia Records.
