It was a busy week again for rumors about the PlayStation 4 and next gen Xbox, as we get closer and closer to the May 21 reveal for the latest Microsoft Console. More details about the systems continue to emerge regarding what Sony and Microsoft's strategy will be for the upcoming generation.

Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 will not require an internet connection at all times, thus standing in direct opposition of what has been heavily rumored about the next-gen Xbox.  Sony also made the news when they declared their strategy of reducing the costs of manufacturing the PlayStation 4, thus attempting to lose less money per console sold compared to the PlayStation 3. The console maker also stated that the Share button for the PlayStation 4 can be disabled at certain points of a game by the developer, thus avoiding users sharing potential spoilers for a game. Leaked marketing material has surfaced for the PlayStation 4, indicating that Sony is using the phrase "Greatness Awaits" as their slogan for the machine.Sony continues to build up the reputation for the PlayStation 4, and the console has lots of early momentum months before the system is expected to be released.

The next-gen Xbox continues to generate rumors about its alleged always online requirement, but a recent leaked internal memo seems to disprove this rumor, if it is legitimate. The next-gen Xbox may also have an official name, as new rumors are circulating that the system will be called Xbox Infinity. While these rumors are interesting, Microsoft will be able to disprove these bits of information soon.

Microsoft and Sony are also rumored to be heavily investing in free-to-play and in-game purchases for the next generation, according to the vice president of Epic Games. This would lead to the PlayStation 4 and next-gen Xbox games to be similar to mobile games that are free but have a variety of items available for purchase for the game as extras.
