A Windows Phone 7.8 update is now available for the Nokia Lumia 900.

As confirmed through Nokia Care US on Twitter, the software update is labeled as "Update 2175.2307.8862.13100."

While availability of the update may depend on the network service provider, improvement and enhancements include:

- New start screen experience with resizable tiles: to change the size, tap and hold the live tile

- Theme colors added

- Lock screen improvements: Bing photo of the day as wallpaper, and accidental input protection for the security code

- Operating system version 7.10.8862.144

- Fix for functionality issues with Live Tiles, such as Live Tiles not updating

- After the update, check out Nokia Collection in Marketplace for new or updated Nokia apps

The update comes about two weeks after the Lumia 900's previous update. The last update, also impacting the Lumia 520, Lumia 610, Lumia 710, and Lumia 800, was touted by Nokia as "our biggest Lumia update yet" with the addition of Bluetooth Share, Camera Extras, and Cinemagraph.

The Lumia 900 launched in January 2012, and originally came with Windows Phone 7.5. The device has a screen size of 4.3 inches with 800x480 pixels at 217 pixels per inch. With only a 16GB internal storage model available, the Lumia 900 has 512MB of RAM and does not offer a microSD card slot. The smartphone does include an impressive 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 3,264x2,448 pixels and Carl Zeiss optics. The front-facing camera is equipped with 1.3 megapixels. With a 1,830mAh battery capacity, the Lumia 900 can go up to 300 hours of standby and seven hours for talk time.

In regards to an update for the Lumia 810 and 820, "we have no information at this time on firmware updates," tweeted Nokia Care US.
