Ewan McGregor will reunite with Natalie Portman for "Jane Got a Gun."

Deadline reported that the English actor, McGregor is in final negotiations to play the pivotal role of the leader of an outlaw gang.

The film tells the story of a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband's gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm.

Throughout the past month the film has suffered setbacks. Michael Fassbender was the first to exit citing scheduling conflicts. Then director Lynn Ramsay quit on the eve of production and angered producer Scott Steindorff. He stated "I have millions of dollars invested, we're ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast. I'm shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people."

Production then enlisted Gavin O'Connor but Jude Law quit shortly after because he was told he would work with Ramsay.

Bradley Cooper recently left production due to scheduling conflicts and left the film without a villain.

McGregor was last seen in "The Impossible," "Haywire" and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. He was also seen in "Beginners" and "Jack and the Giant Slayer." He is slated to appear in "August: Osage County" this summer with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.  The actor reunites with Portman after Stars Wars.

The film also stars Joel Edgerton, Noah Emmerich, and Rodrigo Santoro and is slated for release in 2014. It is currently in production in New Mexico
