The return of "Arrested Development" is now less than three weeks away. Fans have desperately been waiting the past seven years for new episodes, and the wait is almost over. Finally. We know that all 15 episodes will be released simultaneously on Netflix's Watch Instantly Channel and we know that each episode will be designated to an individual character. We know it will host a slew of guest stars including Seth Rogen and Kristin Wiig as the young Lucille and George Bluth, and we know that it will follow the Bluth's as they try to reunite the family once again in the wake of season three's dramatic finale. But what we don't know is how they're going to do it. The Bluths have not been the most organized or intelligent family in the past, and things won't be too different this time around.
"The Bluths are in real deep doo-doo," Jeffrey Tambor, who plays George Bluth, said during the "Arrested Development" premiere screening. That doesn't come as much of a surprise. The Bluths are constantly in a state of perpetual turmoil, or arrested development if you will.
Tony Hale, who returns as Buster, the ill-fated mama's boy, describes the new episodes as "a comic matric in the mind of [creator] Mitch Hurwitz. One surprise after the next... And tonight at the premiere we have an ostrich walking the orange carpet. What the hell is happening?"
Michael Cera, who plays the awkward but lovable George Michael and helped co-write the new season, touched upon the show's hectic nature, although he failed to comment on the ostrich. He admitted that he has "a hard time keeping everything straight."
In one scene, George Michael is seen sharing a shower with his father, Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman). "They had a smoke machine inside to make it seem like it was steaming," he said. "So we were worried about breathing that in - plus the possibility of electrocution."
Bateman wasn't the only one to get close to Cera in the new season. Gob Bluth (Will Arnett), a shameful, dimwitted alcoholic who feels threatened by his younger brother's success, apparently expresses some incestual love interest toward his nephew George Michael. "There's a lot going on beneath the surface," Arnett said. "We always knew Gob was an interesting guy."
"The incest this season branches out in all directions," Cera added. Oh My. Things are about to get even weirder in the Bluth family.
The final countdown has begun. "Arrested Development" returns May 26 on Netflix, and it couldn't come soon enough.
