The Brooklyn Bridge has been shut down to car traffic as authorities attempt to prevent a jumper from jumping off the top of the structure.

Tethered cops were seen trying to talk the man who was pacing back and forth on the Manhattan Tower portion of the bridge.

"Cop now offering jumper chewing gum. Jumper refuses gum. More cops approach jumper. Cops all sharing gum!" Niketa Patel posted on Twitter while watching the ordeal unfold through a telescope.

It is unclear how the man got to the top of the bridge or if he was threatening to jump.

Authorities say that six officers from the New York Police Department Emergency Services Unit were working on getting the man down from the top of the structure, as reported by the New York Post
